Gold Coast - TweedGold

Infrastructure

Land and infrastructure are the fundamental building blocks of regional economic growth. The TweedGold region is well served by the availability of both, including plans for future growth management by:

  • Planned $3 billion to be spent on the upgrading of the Pacific Highway between Sydney and Brisbane.
  • Planned upgrading of road and highway connectivity between Queensland and New South Wales to significantly improve inter-regional and regional traffic flow between Tweed and Gold Coast.
  • Ready access to two of the busiest and fastest growing airports in Australia - Gold Coast and Brisbane.
  • The extension of the Gold Coast Airport runway to provide increased direct international flights, catering for tourist, business and air-freight opportunities.
  • The extension of the Brisbane to Robina rail to Gold Coast Airport will complete a vital link with Brisbane Airport.
  • Speedy and excellent access to the Australian Trade Coast, developing as one of the major inter-modal transport hubs in Australia.
  • Assured water supplies to meet the needs of the region. Clarrie Hall Dam in the Tweed, has a storage capacity of 16,000 megalitres, and the capacity to support a population of some 160,000 people, with plans for a second dam in the future. The Hinze Dam southwest of Nerang has a storage capacity of 161,000 megalitres and supplies most of the water for the Gold Coast's resident and tourist populations. The secondary supply of the Little Nerang Dam, has a storage capacity of 9,280 megalitres. The water supply is being augmented by a pipeline from the Wivenhoe Dam near Brisbane which will be able to supply 85 megalitres a day to the Gold Coast from 2007.
