Population

  • The population in the TweedGold region of over 550,000 makes it one of the largest urban centres in Australia.
  • The TweedGold area grew by nearly 60, 000 or 12% from 2001 to 2004, that is about the total size of Rockhampton, a major Queensland city.

  • The TweedGold economy had a total gross output estimated at $24 billion in 2002/03. The region’s Gross Regional Product was estimated at $11 billion.
  • The TweedGold economy grew by nearly 40% in the period 1996/97 to 2001/02. This represented an annual average growth rate of 6.8%, significantly above growth rates for the national economy.
  • The services sector is the predominant sector accounting for 88% of economic activity in TweedGold, with manufacturing and agriculture also significant.

The Greater Brisbane Growth Zone

Projections for the urban growth zone from TweedGold north to Noosa predict that the population will grow from around 2.5 million to about 4 million in the next 20 years.

The East Coast Growth Zone

TweedGold is strategically located at the epicentre of the Australia’s east coast growth corridor, stretching from Coffs Harbour in New South Wales to Hervey Bay in Queensland.

Population projections confirm that by 2021 almost one third of Australia’s population growth will take place in this exciting region of Australia. Projected Population for Coffs Harbour to Hervey Bay Region 2001 to 2021.
